On the Moor

So we were sitting around one Sunday evening and got to thinking “hey, I wonder if we can make a tiny mouse with joints like the bears?” (what else would we be thinking about on a Sunday evening? lol)

We did some planning, and some more thinking and a bit more planning, some trials, and little Joshua Robert was born-

Joshua Robert now lives here on the Moor. (Named by our 3 year old daughter-she comes up the the cutest names!) As soon as I made him I loved him so much! He fit right into the palm of my hand. We were so happy with Joshua Robert that we made a few more! Oh, and I made Joshua Robert my new personal assistant.

Meet Maxwell, Fiona! Max and Fi found homes yesterday, as the first of our brand new line of 4 inch, 5 way jointed velveteen mousies.

I’m serious, these little mice are so nice to hold in hand. I’m so happy with the design. The velveteen makes them so soft,(and a bit furry feeling) and the bit of weight their joints give them feels very much like the weight of a real  mouse.

Our mice are normally 8 inches tall, but these new sweethearts are just a bit over 4 inches.

We’ve been working hard on a set of joints small enough to make our small animals poseable like our larger animals are. We finally came up with a nice, reliable design.

We will be adding these little mice into our regular inventory, and custom orders are always welcome. Visit the Moor often, have your proverbial net handy and catch one for yourself! Be quick though, little mice skitter away  fast!

We acquired some beautiful and soft grey cotton velveteen and just had to use it to make some friends over the weekend. I coudn’t decide which to do- bunny or mouse, so I did both! I really love how it feels, as well as the ease with which it sews!

This is Ashley Flowerseed! She’s a 6 1/2 inch tall wood button jointed mousie wearing her favorite white woodland cap. She has pretty pink and grey cotton patchwork in her ears and on her paws.

And this is Parsley Bunting! He’s also 6 1/2 inches tall, and he’s wearing his country blue cotton overalls. He also has cotton patchwork accenting his long bunny ears, and his sweet bunny paws, in a pretty sage green, cream and grey cotton plaid.

When we lived in the city and our oldest daughter was 2 there was a pleasant little squirrel who decided to adopt our family and greet us each morning  in our yard. I rembered how much fun it was to feed squirrels in my own childhood yard growing up, so we encouraged our new friend’s visits with tiny peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Our little daughter named her new found friend “Whirl the Squirrel” and delighted her with his visits for a long time.

When I found this beautiful fox fur collar attached to a sweater we were purchasing for another project-I was immediately called back to memories of our dear Whirl.

I started working on a cute little Craggy Squirrel and came up with this adorable pattern.

The pretty fox tail was just enough for one for us and one for you!

 We had to make a “Whirl” to live here too of course!

 We are so excited to share a little squirrel with you that means so much to us. Hurry over to our Etsy store because you know how squirrels are-they run away fast!

Today Marla Maplemouse snuck onto the Moor and was adopted by one of our Craggy Friends who also adopted bears Sandy and

 Elena. I’m sure Marla will have many happy days with her new family.

Frasier Harington hopped onto the Moor today too! He’s extra special-made of a vintage oatmeal wool. He has a wonderfully folksy style

and a very special handspun wool tail!

 He’s up for adoption, and would love to meet you!

Meanwhile, we are getting Tommy and Tillyanna Fieldmouse on their way today, they are headed to their new home with many hugs and best wishes.

Beau Bearsley was born over the weekend. Look at that sweet face! He was adopted a few hours after we posted this pic:

We know, its been quiet over on our Etsy store. We wanted to share with you what we’ve been up to!

The first order to come in was a for a cute pair of mice who went to live in far away Malaysia.

The second order to come in was for a trio of mousie friends who will go to live in Australia.

 They are some of the first mice to wear the new patterns we’ve been working on for overalls,jumpers, and hooded sweaters!

It’s time to get back to the day, but we wanted to give you a quick update. There are two custom order puppies just finished; and more cute friends in the works too, almost ready to introduce to you, as well as custom orders in the works!  We are so excited to be so busy! Lotty is a sweet little mousie who just loves to snuggle!

She’s a pretty patchwork mouse about 7 1/2 inches tall with 3 1/2 inch sweet and floppy ears. She’s just the right size for little hands. Her ears, tail,and little limbs are wonderful for early grasping.

Lotty is made of a super soft wheat colored cotton velvet. She has pretty pink plaid cotton accents, to include a cute little knotted mouse tail.

Lotty has adorable handstitched cotton eyes, nose and smile. She also has a pretty little handstitched apple red wool heart full of love.

Lotty’s stuffing is weighted with double washed pebbles sewn securely into a muslin pouch in her tummy. This makes her slightly and very pleasingly heavy, and irresistible for little hands to hold and hug.

Lotty is completely child friendly, and would be the perfect friend for even the tiniest little one. Lotty would love to keep her little friend company at naptime, and she loves to jump into the diaper bag for on the go adventure and fun.

Little Lentil is a soft brown cotton mousie! He gives a friendly smile, and a listening ear, and he loves to be held and hugged, and carried along on adventure.

Lentil is made of soft cotton knit and coordinating floral patchwork with pretty shades of mustard,sage,cranberry and rose. He has sweet handstitched eyes,nose and smile.

Lentil also has a cute little handsewn cherry wool heart full of love, and a little patchwork tail with a knot at the end.

He is completely child friendly, and has pleasing contrast in color and pattern, very interesting to babies.

Lentil’s stuffing is weighted with a few double washed pebbles securely sewn into a muslin pouch in his tummy to make him a little heavy, and pleasing for little hands to hold and carry.

Lentil is waldorf style. We love the open simplicity and homespun nature of Waldorf creations. They inspire imaginative play, and their little faces reflect the emotion of the child playing with them.

Lentil loves to snuggle, and he’s the perfect quiet little friend to take along in the carseat or in the diaper bag.

Lentil is safe and hypoallergenic, and would cheer up an isolette too!

Everyone knows this time of year all kinds of little mousies appear. The Craggy Moor is no exception!A special kind of scratching in my sewing box this morning brought the discovery of a sweet little patchwork mouse who calls himself Squeaklin Woolworth. He has a love of all things shiny, and was found quite hapilly nestled among the tempting, burnished vintage buttons!

Squeaklin is 9 inches tall, 6 inches sitting. He’s made of super soft repurposed sky blue wool, interwoven with delicate strands of cream. His cute little pointed muzzle and paw pads are accented with buttery caramel colored cotton velvet.

Squeaklin’s adorable oversized ears, and little knotted tail are coordinating slate and sky blue paisley cotton with a beautiful pattern.

Squeaklin is all natrual on the outside-every surface that would touch tender skin is made of all natural wool and cottons.

On the inside he’s stuffed with hypoallergenic, premium quality clusterfluff, and a touch of dry lavender.
Squeaklin also has steel bbs deep within his tummy and feet to make him pleasingly heavy and “real” feeling.

Squeaklin’s limbs are securely string tied and button jointed with 6 strand cotton floss and beautiful pearly white shell buttons.

His face sweetly smiles, and seems to ask “what fun can we have today?”  He has lovely, shining navy jet eyes, and a cute little handstitched black cotton nose and smile.

Squeaklin Woolworth is just waiting to be special to a new little friend (ages 4 and up due to small parts). Squeaklin is securely made, but as with any toy, rough play could cause damage. Please use your own discretion when buying for the very young.
