Thunder on the Moor

Posted in Bears About the House | No Comments »

It was very hot and humid here today. It seems like the whole summer has been that way this year. Today we had a very interesting pop up storm happen in the afternoon, bringing with it a momentary rush of fresh, cool air.

Look at the interesting wall cloud over our house!

Our First Smoked Brisket!

Posted in Bears About the House | No Comments »

We have a great love for cooking here  on the Moor. This weekend we tried something we’ve wanted to do for years! We home-smoked a brisket.

Wow.

There really is no comparison to smoking one’s own brisket at home. We began with a dry rub  of our favorite combination of bbq spices: cracked black and white peppers, a pinch of cayenne and 2 dried ancho chiles. We added a pinch or two of cocoa, freshly ground coffee (ground fine),cinnamon, salt, garlic and onion powders. The peppers added a bright spicyness, the coffee, cocoa and cinnamon added a deep note in the background. The garlic, and onion powders kept the savory aspect to the forefront.

Cowboy Charcoal 8.8lbs. Cowboy All-Natural Lump Charcoal

We’ve found that charcoal grilling adds a depth to grilling that we really love in general. A superior charcoal to use if you love charcoal grilling is lump hardwood charcoal. The irregular shapes of this charcoal make it pleasingly rustic, and the varied surface area helps the charcoal to burn better we think.

Cowboy Charcoal 10lbs. Hickory Wood Chunks

We also smoked with wood chunks. You can get chips or chunks for smoking. We prefer chunks because they burn hotter and longer. And ohhhh the smell they give off is wonderful.

Back to the brisket:

We trimmed the fat, and applied the dry rub, then got it in the smoker.  Halfway through, we began an occasional wet mop of apple juice, water, honey, brown sugar, whiskey, apple cider vinegar(just a touch to balance the sweetness).

7 hours later we had the BEST, and I mean the BEST brisket we’ve ever had. It had so much flavor that complimented the beef flavor so well-you just cannot get anything like home smoked meat anywhere- sweet, peppery, savory, super tender, just right!

Today for lunch we had smoked brisket quesadillas using our smoked meat perfection and a combination of smoked swiss and mozzerella provolone blend. oh ya.

Then for dinner we pulled out all the stops. We made homemade coleslaw, and cut/fried our own french fries. Hey, you do those things when you have such a wonderfully tasty brisket coming to dinner :)

Add a little Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce and it was such a treat!

Home smoking was well worth it, and so worth sharing. Would you like a slice?

Rabbity guest blogging again! How are you?

I’m sure you’re wondering what we’re up to today. Well, I’ll show you! :)

We are busy creating a set of mouse and bear siblings for a family. Two bears and two mice are halfway done, so I can’t show you any pics yet, but here are some charming color swatches:

The center is the color of the girl white mice we are working on today. The colors on the outside are some of the accents for ears, paws, clothes.

These boucle’s are the beginings of beautiful bears. The milk chocolate boucle on the right has been cut into two girl bears this week, and one is ready to joint! We can’t wait to show you some more pics-hopefully at the end of the week!

In the meantime, I’m just going to sit right here and watch. It’s important to have a good supervisor you know :)

Hi I’m Rabbity!

We’ve been so busy here on the Moor, but we love busy! I’m a new bunny here on the Moor named “Rabbity”. Since I’m pretty new I get to play and have fun pretty much all the time.  Since my schedule is pretty free at the moment, they asked me to do a guest posting today.

I’ll tell you a bit about myself. I was  adopted by a little girl who lives here. I heard she had something wonderful called a birthday, and I was her gift! Now she and I go everywhere.

I’m a very happy Rabbity.

I like to sit with the family at dinnertime and talk to my little friend from the safety and comfort of the island in the kitchen :)

I’m made of wool with cotton patchwork in my ears and on my paws. I also have a bit of oatmeal felted wool on my muzzle. Other Rabbity’s like me might be made of other materials but I just know they’ll be cute like me. I’m wobble jointed and my knees and elbows have a bit of a bend in them. That makes it easy for me to sit and pose in some pretty cute ways. Ok, enough of the boring stuff. :)

I make myself available for any and all computer related questions anybear might have. I feel I’m rather versed on the subject of comptuers after having a long sit on the big bed for quite a few evenings as I was being completed. I listened very carefully…..

You might want to have a Rabbity around your house. We Rabbities are very helpful. I’m not sure what this brush is for, but Dad said he’d be right back to show me how to use it….

The other night I  got to help make a tasty snack of raised orange glazed donuts (I was excited when I saw they were orange thinking they were carrot flavored, but they weren’t. Hey. Nothing’s perfect right? And they were still tasty.)

Well, I better get going. I have some errands to run (If I can get this thing to start…hey, where are the pedals?)

Look for more Rabbity’s like me to hop onto the Moor soon!

Weekly Shopping

Beasleyshoppingtrip

Hallo its Beasley here. This week it was my turn to go on the weekly shopping trip. I really look forward to it, being a traveling bear of sorts. I just love to get out and about, and jumped at the chance to tag along. In our state, there aren’t any laws  regarding bears and seatbelts, so my perch of choice is the dash.

We went to our local thrift store to get some materials on this trip, among other stops.

Beasleyshoppingtrip2

I’m waiting here for my door to open. Look at the road sludge on the windows! We had quite the snowstorm, and it left its sludgy mark on everything in town.

We didn’t take our camera inside, as there was work to do, hence the lack of pictures. We were pressed for time too, as we usually are. Shopping day is the day we hit town and try to get all the things done in one day, and it can be pretty busy most times. We found some really cool stuff though! Lots of materials for some new friends!

I stayed in the van while everyone went into the last stop to ahem…guard the Amazingly Beautiful Can of the Best Chips in the World. Somebear needs to be on guard against possible chip thieves. Hey. They’re out there. I should know.um…because I’ve seen them (I must confess there is only one letter separating seen from been….)

I promise I didn’t take it :0) I was a good bear, so I got my very own chip as we all munched and headed home for the evening.

Excuse me…I need a moment of privacy to enjoy this tasty treat :0)

Talk to you soon!
